70 trees and 120 shrubs to promote biodiversity

To promote biodiversity and preserve our environment, Leihouse strives to regularly replant trees and shrubs. 70 trees and 120 shrubs have just been planted, including walnut, linden, maple, oak, wild cherry, and mulberry trees, among others.

Thank you to the entire team who participated in this project.

At Leihouse, our commitment to biodiversity and environmental preservation translates into concrete and ongoing action: the replanting of trees and shrubs, particularly in the form of hedgerows. This approach is essential for restoring ecological balance and ensuring a healthy living environment for all.

A Refuge for Biodiversity

Isolated trees and, even more so, hedgerows constitute true ecological corridors and havens for local wildlife.

  • Wildlife Habitat: They offer shelter, nesting sites, and food (berries, pollen, insects) to a multitude of species. Hedgerows are preferred routes for small mammals (hedgehogs, mustelids) and breeding grounds for many birds and essential pollinating insects.
  • Plant Diversity: The replanting of diverse local species strengthens the ecosystem’s resilience to disease and climate change.

Essential Ecosystem Services

Beyond their role in supporting wildlife, these plantings play a fundamental part in regulating our environment:

  • Combating Climate Change: Trees are powerful carbon sinks. Through photosynthesis, they absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere, directly contributing to mitigating global warming.
  • Soil and Water Protection: Their roots stabilize the soil, preventing erosion caused by wind and runoff. Hedges act as natural filters, limiting the transfer of pollutants (pesticides, nitrates) to groundwater and waterways.
  • Improving Microclimate: In summer, the evapotranspiration of trees creates pockets of coolness, reducing local temperatures and thus improving our comfort and that of living species. Hedges, for their part, serve as effective windbreaks.

By replanting trees and hedges, Leihouse is not only investing in its own living environment, but is actively contributing to the overall health of our planet.
